I always enjoy taking a walk through a cemetery. It gives you a great feel for the area and often shares a lot of history. Even though I've lived near DC my entire life, I just found this hidden gem - the Congressional Cemetery. This DC cemetery definitely lives up to its reputation as one of the liveliest cemeteries in the US. It has a packed calendar with all sorts of events, and invites both people and dogs to explore the grounds every day. Take a look at their website for all the details on events and hours. Established in 1807, this famous cemetery in DC is the final resting place for many notable figures, including over 30 members of Congress and several Supreme Court justices. Among these figures are John Marshall, known for shaping American law, and several war heroes from conflicts like the Civil War. This historic cemetery houses around 35,000 graves, each with its own story.

Start off at the impressive US Capitol and make your way down East Capitol Street. You'll love checking out the classic rowhouses, gas lamps, and charming pocket gardens around these 19th-century homes.
Next, you'll hit Lincoln Park, a beautiful green space featuring statues of Lincoln and Mary McLeod Bethune.
As you keep going, you'll pass Eastern Market. It's the perfect place to grab a coffee, snack, or lunch. On weekends, the market is buzzing with vendors selling fresh produce, artwork, and handmade crafts.
Heading southeast, you'll stroll past Barracks Row, where you can find some awesome local dining options, before reaching the Congressional Cemetery.
