St. Michaels is such a lovely, walkable town that you must visit if you haven't already. We recently enjoyed an amazing autumn weekend here, taking in the fall foliage and festive decorations both downtown and in the charming neighborhoods.

On our latest trip, a local recommended that we explore the St. Michaels Nature Trail. This trail was new to me, and I couldn't wait to check it out. It inspired me to create this fantastic 3-mile self-guided walking tour highlighting all of the features of this delightful eastern shore town.

See the map below for details on this enjoyable walk through town.

St. Michaels Self-Guided 3 Mile Walking Tour

  1. North Talbot Street/South Talbot Street

Our walking tour will begin on North Talbot Street and proceed southward. Talbot Street is the "main street" of downtown St. Michaels. It is lined with delicious restaurants, unique gift shops, clothing boutiques and stunning art galleries.

  1. Charming St. Michaels Neighborhoods

Next, you'll head east into the adorable neighborhoods of St. Michaels. The residents here take great pride in their homes, and it shows! These streets exude charm, with beautifully landscaped gardens and impeccably maintained houses. Check out the Halloween decorations on the home below!

  1. Muskrat Park and Stunning Water Views

Let's continue to Muskrat Park, situated on Town Harbor. This park features historic cannons and gorgeous views of the harbor. It's a perfect place to relax and enjoy the waterfront scenery at St. Michaels Marina.

  1. Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum & Historic Homes on Navy Point

Our next stop will be the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. This museum is definitely worth a visit. It's the only museum offering information on all aspects of this extraordinary body of water. CBMM's beautiful setting includes numerous indoor and outdoor hands-on exhibits regarding the bay.

In season, the museum is open from 10AM - 5PM, offering 2-day admisson for $20 per adult. Visit their website for information on ticket purchases and Winter hours.

Don't miss the chance to explore the three historic homes on Navy Point: Higgens House, Dodson House and Eagle House. Built between the mid and late 1800s, these homes have been meticulously restored and maintained. Check the marker below for additional information on these homes.

  1. St. Michaels Nature Trail

We will return to North Talbot Street, take the first right onto Railroad Ave, and walk to the street's end. This is where you can access the St. Michaels Nature Trail. We'll be walking a portion of this 1.3 mile paved trail on the town's west side. Along the way, we came across horses, lovely small lakes and a covered pedestrian bridge.
